Community Raises 16 Boxes For First Nation Families In Need

The local area has helped to give some First Nation families in need a boost this winter.

According to Kapuskasing Indian Friendship Centre Worker Rhonda Martin, the Kapuskasing community was able to raise a total of 16 boxes to send off to First Nation reserves across the country as part of Christmas ShoeBox Santa for Reserves.

Martin says it was wonderful to see eight separate community members donate boxes, as well as two schools and one organization.

She says six boxes were donated from Coeur du Nord, a box from Echo du Nord and also a box from Grand Nord Legal Clinic.

Martin says she will be delivering the boxes today to Timmins at a drop-off location where they will then be transported to reserves.
