Volunteers needed to help with Tim Horton’s Smile Cookies in Kap

The countdown is on to the Monday launch of the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign. Volunteers are needed to help out in Kapuskasing with the Warm Belly Soup Kitchen and the Food Bank.

Kitchen coordinator Amanda Rickard says about 10 volunteers are needed for each three hour shift throughout the week.

“It’s a great way for students to get their hours, team building, a good date night with friends,” she said. “I know a lot of my friends show up because sometimes that the only way they get to hang out with me.”

Volunteers provide moral support and also help to bake and decorate cookies.

The goal this year is to raise $20,000 or sell all of the 13,500 smile cookies.

She adds money raised next week helps the Kitchen and Food Bank.

“It will allow us to purchase new equipment, stock our shelves, plan new programming,” she said. “I mean $20,000 is a big chunk of change for a non-for-profit organization.”
