Kap town council inches closer to municipal budget finish line

The Town of Kap is inching closer to the finish line of its 2024 budget. Council recommended that the water, sewer and capital works budgets be approved at the next month’s meeting.

There is no increase for sewer rates, but Administrator Guylain Baril says water goes up by two per cent.

“The average household in Kapuskasing consumes 205 cubic metres of water, and that represents $12 in a year and two per cent of the water rates which is our master plan,” he said. “We have been going up two per cent a year for six or seven years now.”

Meantime, a total of $4.8 million worth of capital works projects are expected to be completed this year.

It includes wrapping up the Connecting Link between the Service Master business and Caron Street, as well as Brunetville Road that’s caused some issues for motorists during the winter.

The replacement of water and sewer lines on a section of  King Street is also proposed, as well as improvements to, Birch and Oak Streets.
