New taxi service expected in Hearst next month

The Town of Hearst could have taxi service again for the first time in eight years. Karanjit Singh, a Timmins taxi cab driver, says preparations are continuing to launch the service by the middle of next month. Singh says he’s looking forward to offering it to the community.

Hearst Town Council votes on a resolution at the end of the month to increase the taxi service rates for the first time since 2014. The bylaw change raises the initial taxi charge to $5, and each additional kilometre to $2.50.

The rate hikes are similar to those in other communities including Kapuskasing.
