The hospital that serves 115,000 people in its catchment area is getting $8.6-million from the provincial government.
Mines minister and Timmins MPP George Pire announced the funding for the Timmins and District Hospital on Wednesday.
$1,365,500 goes towards improving emergency room wait times. Hospital CEO Kate Fyfe says the other $7,263,500 supports 38 alternative level of care beds.
“At the start of the pandemic, we received funding to open 29 beds,” se notes. “With this funding, we’ve been able to expand the 29 to 38.”
“The 38 beds are all at (the) St. Mary’s (site)” she continues, “what we could classify as complex continuing care. The majority of the patients that are in those beds are awaiting placement in a long-term care facility.”
St. Mary’s Gardens is one of two hospitals replaced by TADH in 1993.
