Council Supporting Push For A Further Extension To Forestry Regulations

Kapuskasing is one of multiple communities seeking a further extension of forestry regulations.

Monday night council agreed to support the County of Renfrew in their push for a five-year extension to forestry regulations rather than the originally agreed two.

Mayor Alan Spacek says communities all over the northeast have been pushing for this.

Spacek says the provincial or federal government has yet to look into the socio-economic impacts.

Despite there push for a further extension, Spacek still says the two-year extension is a starting point.

Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Nathalie Des Rosiers announced the two-year extension back in late January to balance habitat protection with business opportunities.
