TV Ontario is featuring Kapuskasing on Tuesday as part of its docuseries ‘Crossroads Beyond Boom and Bust’. Producer Jo Virgo says it was great to learn more about the town’s rich history dating back to the internment camps.
She adds that the focus of the program is about the work being done by the francophone community and the arrival of more English speaking residents.
“People are fighting to preserve the French culture and the French language not only for this generation but for future generations,” she said. “That came across really loud and clear in our research and the people we interviewed for the show, the episode.”
Virgo says most of the TV production and locations used have been in Southern Ontario.
“Especially for Ontario it seems more accessible,” he said. “We decided to go a little further and we found Kapuskasing and once we started digging into the history we really found to be a very very interesting story.”
The program airs at 9 pm on TV Ontario channel as well as on its website, You Tube and App.
