Kap and Hearst mayors meet with Green First officials

The mayors of Kapuskasing and Hearst were guests of officials from the Green First Forest Products Mill in Kapuskasing for a tour and update on the facility. Mayor Dave Plourde who was joined by Roger Sigouoin, says it was an informative meeting about what’s ahead for the company.

“They put together a little preview for us, and it’s really interesting to see what the industry has come up with,” he said. “Something that is really going to take our facility in Kapuskasing, but not just our facility in Kapuskasing facilities in Hearst and Cochrane and Chapleau for that matter for the next 20 -25 years.”

Plourde says he can’t discuss what’s ahead for the mill, but added that building a strong relationship is a must.

“It was them themselves that built our community so I think in the environment that we are in, seeing a need for increased housing for just the growth in our region,” he said. “I think it’s very important that we are all at the table and we all participate equally.”
