Kapuskasing History: Val Albert survey and new postal service

A survey was completed to install new water and sewer lines for 2,000 residents in the community of Val Albert.

Questions were asked if residents were willing to put up the $5 a foot frontage and the $40 a year rate required to put the whole system in operation. The $25,000 project was waiting the approval of the Ontario Municipal Board.

During that time residents were using wells for their water supply while sewers was being handled by individual septic tanks.

We also learned about the Post Office officially began door-to-door delivery.

A photo shows seven men in new outfits ready in the new Post Office Department. Mayor Norman S Grant says it was the sign of progress for the community, and adds that there were still a few bugs to get out on the daily mail delivery.

The men in the dark uniforms were soon to become a familiar face in Kapuskasing.

The article suggested that it took a lot of pressure from the local Chamber of Commerce to get the service up and running.
