Kap Mayor says discussions progressing on new Extendicare

The Mayor of Kapuskasing believes discussions with the Ministry of Long-Term Care at the recent Rural Ontario Municipal Association Meetings regarding advancement of the Extendicare project went well.

Dave Plourde says the government understands the long waiting list in our region and how the new facility will go along way to easing that backlog.

“The situation in Kapuskasing hasn’t gotten better and if anything has gotten worse, and there is a bigger stress on finding places for to empty the waiting list that exists in Kapuskasing,” he said.

It’s been two years since the province and Extendicare announced a new 128 bed facility in Kapuskasing. There has been very little movement as the two sides continue to have odds over funding models.

“It was a good opportunity to put everything down,” he said. “They knew what we were going to there wasn’t no surprise to them. They’re aware of it and will keep communicating with us and a matter of fact Minister (Stan) Cho had indicated that he will be coming up to our community in the very near future so I’m anxious to learn more to that.”
