You’re being asked to be extra safe this weekend with any fires.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is asking residents along the Highway 11 corridor communities to be fire smart this long weekend.
The MNRF are asking that if you plan to clean by burning yard waste that you don’t burn sooner than two hours before sunset and later than two hours prior to sunrise.
- Fires cannot be started sooner than two hours before sunset and must be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise.
- An adult must always tend the fire until extinguished.
- Tools such as a shovel or water must be available to put the fire out.
- The fire must be at least two metres from things that can easily be set on fire
For campfires they are asking that you build away from the forest as well as on exposed rock if possible and try to keep the fire small.

Anyone looking to celebrate the weekend with fireworks is being asked to do so over gravel or water and always have firefighting equipment nearby like an extinguisher.
- Choose an area away from things that can easily set on fire – gravel or over water are both good options
- After setting the fireworks, check the area for hot residue and ensure it’s put out
- Have firefighting equipment nearby and ready.
