Kapuskasing town council has hired a new Deputy Fire Chief, took a critical look at the Municipal Act and laid out public meetings for the week ahead.
A divided council has hired Patrick Kennedy as the new deputy fire chief and assistant evacuation coordinator.
Kennedy will report directly to the Manager of Protective Services, Gerry Deumeles.
Dupont Taxi made a request to cap taxi broker permits at two, however Councillor Dave Plourde voiced concerns on a cap impeding on free enterprise.
Council will institute a cap on a trial basis, with a timeline of two years.
Tonight an information session will be held on zoning by-laws and tomorrow a meeting regarding plans on the new dog park and bike paths will also be shared.
Members from the financial department of the town will also be taking a trip to Kirkland Lake to learn more on grants and funding, which stands to benefit many towns in the Northeast.
