Archibald runs to be AFN national chief

RoseAnne Archibald is ready to step up as national chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

She rose from her election at 23 as a councillor in her community of Taykwa Tagamou First Nation near Cochrane, through the ranks to be the first female regional chief for Ontario.

Archibald says she wants transparency and accountability from the national body,  and to address gender-based discrimination and lateral violence.

“I have been described as brave and courageous and as I say, it’s time for the right woman leader to step forward and serve as national chief,” Archibald stated while declaring her candidacy.

She says she can truly represent the interests and realities of First Nations.

“I have dedicated decades of proven leadership and experience and like so many, I believe it’s time for real and evolutionary changes within the AFN.”

The AFN votes for its next chief on July 7th.
