DSB-1 stand on in-person learning is not blanket support across its territory

Trustees on our region’s English public school board have two stands on any return to in-person learning.

District School Board Ontario Northeast director Lesleigh Dye says the board supports it for schools from Temagami to Kirkland Lake.  That area is in Timiskaming Health Unit territory, where there is only a handful of active COVID-19 cases.

“Due to the incredibly high numbers of confirmed COVID cases in the Porcupine Health Unit,” she quickly adds, “they are not able to support all the students coming back to in-person learning.”

“It will really depend on the advice that our local health unit provides to us and then in the context of the provincial direction.”

Premier Doug Ford is asking medical experts and children’s hospital’s for input into his final back-to-school decision.
