Hughes: Cutting Municipal Infrastructure Debt will Help Create Jobs

The NDP’s Carol Hughes says reducing the infrastructure deficit for northern Ontario municipalities will go a long way to helping job creation.

Hughes says currently municipalities keep one per cent of the gas tax, the NDP is planning to up it to two.

She says the increase will help curb northern municipality debt, which is $172 billion and rising across the entire North.

Hughes says investing in infrastructure will create jobs over the long-term, doubling the gas tax contribution will also help greatly.

Hughes is running against the Conservative’s Andre Robichaud and Liberal candidate Heather Wilson.

The election is set for October 19th.
