Kap History – one day Moonbeam winter carnival in 1965

A one day winter carnival in Moonbeam is the subject of this week’s look at Kapuskasing and area history.

The February 10th 1965 edition of the Northern Times reported that the day long carnival began in the early afternoon with a hockey game at the community rink followed by an all-girls broomball game between Moonbean and Cochrane.

Ronald Robert won a snowmobile race against eight competitors. Francoise Germain was crowned carnival queen beating out Jacqueline Belisle and Lilliane Dufour.

About $1,000 was raised from the events, and proceeds were used to improve the community centre and skating rink.

A special thanks to the Kapuskasing Public Library for use of its archives.
