The Schulich Builders Scholarship for skilled trades has awarded a Kapuskasing native with a bursary to help with her carpentry studies at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Kayla Doyle was one of four students to get a one-year scholarship of $20,000. She says receiving this bursary from one of the largest programs of its kind in Canada means a lot.
“There’s people out there who really see my potential and want to help me reach my goals and help me, so it really like mans a lot to me that I was one of the lucky ones to get this bursary.”
Doyle says she’s always been interested in carpentry, and a co-op program at CNC Cabinets made the difference.
“So I got a bit of experience working with my hands, building cabinets and creating new things which really helped me realize that’s something I want to go into.”
The bursaries cover tuition, tools, and living expenses.
