Hands-on and more at trades fair

A trades fair aimed mostly at students is on Wednesday and Thursday at the McIntyre Community Building.

It’s part of the Level Up initiative of the provincial government.

Scott Ravary is the labour ministry’s lead manager on it. He says the fair provides an opportunity to explore a wide range of trades.

“Through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, conversations with industry professionals,” he outlines. “All of our exhibitors at these events are industry professionals, whether in the educational side of things or employers.”

More young women are showing up at the fairs across Ontario. Last week in Barrie, there was a lot of interest in being an auto or truck and coach mechanic.

“So it’s always great to hear that gender stereotype being kind of blown up to some degree,” says Ravary. “The trades are open to everybody.”

Here is the full interview with Scott Ravary. He has complete details on the trades fair.
