Kap History: Partie du Sucre at Moonbeam Parish in 1965

An old Quebec tradition called ‘Partie du Sucre’ held in Moonbeam is the delicious subject of our weekly look at local history.

The Wednesday, March 31st 1965 edition of the Northern Times features a photo of the Potvin family enjoying the toffee that consisted of hot maple syrup on snow.

It was the second year that the Moonbeam Parish held the activity that also included the sale of homemade bread, pastries, and various crafts. A special French-Canadian super was served in the evening that was followed by dancing, singing and entertainment. Proceeds benefited the building fund for a new church.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Kapuskasing Public Library for providing us with great content each week.
