Timmins Square looking ahead to next 50 years

As the only large shopping mall within a 300-km radius of Timmins enters its second half-century, the property manager at Timmins Square says to expect a lot of changes, as the mall stays relevant and gets as many new tenants as it can.

At a 50th anniversary observance, Kelly Biasetti said she’s expecting the expansion of business for existing tenants and new tenants in 2027.

“The announcements for the expansions will also come in 2027,” she says.”You’ll notice a big change within the next two years of the mall being less vacant.”

Biasetti says population growth due to the mining boom will make national tenants want to set up shop at the Square.

There’s no current plan to expand, but she says head office is considering options for land behind the mall and the former Sears property, which was demolished.

“They do have plans to eventually have some type of building on that section of the property, yes.”

Biasetti notes that there is no timeline for that right now.
