Pirie welcomes federal investment in Northern Ontario industries

Eight-point-seven billion dollars is a nice number to provincial northern development minister George Pirie.

That’s the amount announced by the two senior levels of government to fortify Ontario’s industrial base and unlock future jobs.

“It speaks volumes to the premier’s and our government’s belief in the future of Northern Ontario,” Pirie remarks, “and how crucial it is to support our specific industries that are affected by tariffs.”

Pirie, the MPP for Timmins, is also pleased that Ottawa is matching the $1-billion investment in putting a road into the mineral-rich Ring of Fire region.

“That will go a long way to advancing the potential in the Ring of Fire. Just a great news story for sure.”

Pirie agrees with the assessment coming out of Alberta lately, praising the help from Ottawa, regardless of political party lines.
