A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Kap Minerals and Moose Cree First Nation on the development of the former phosphate mine located southwest of Kapuskasing.
President Jeff Ivan says the company is talking to several First Nations groups in the area, and Moose Cree recognized the importance of what‘s happening in the region and how they can be a part of it.
“Explore a number of opportunities that includes investment and equity participation by Moose Cree. We are looking at businesses owned by Moose Cree as well and opportunities around that – employment, education and of course the potential for other further agreements.”
Ivan says the project is moving along well, and they’ll soon be working on the design of a processing plant and a feasibility study.
“We’re really excited about the entire project not just for phosphate but also for the critical minerals and rare earths that we have. There’s been a lot of interest in the rare-earths particularly in the scandium side.“
