100-tonne ‘spectacle’ happens next week on Detour Lake Rd.

UPDATE: Instead of this coming week, Agnico Eagle now says the 100 tonne cargo will arrive in Cochrane on Thursday, September 10th.

Agnico Eagle Mines is calling something planned for next week “a spectacle”.

A truck will be moving a piece of equipment up Detour Lake Rd. to the minesite.

Communications manager for Ontario, Cameron Grant, says it weighs 100 tonnes and is 21 feet wide.

“It’ll be coming by rail,” he notes. “It should arrive in Cochrane over the weekend, so hopefully weekend, early next week. But of course, we’re going to be keeping some updates on our Facebook page as well.”

The large load will be moved onto a truck in Cochrane.  The exact day it heads to Detour hasn’t been finalized. That leg of the trip will take six to eight hours.

“Traffic disruptions will be minimized as much as possible, Grant notes. “I mean again, this is not our first rodeo, but it may not be possible to pass or easily pass the truck as it’s moving towards Detour.”

The last time a load as large as this one was moved up to the mine was the winter of 2011-2012.
