Kapuskasing will have some special visitors next month, all be it for a brief moment. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the famous military aerobatic flight show team will fly over the town on Saturday, September 12th starting at noon.
Tourism and special events coordinator Kelly Kraby says you are invited to Riverside Park to watch it. She adds it won’t be a full show, but a flyover that will last about 25 minutes.
“We just wanted to inquire about them coming to Kapuskasing and we’ve had some snowbirds come to Kapuskasing in the past and it was always well received,” she said.
Kraby says a Quebec pilot will serve as the master of ceremonies.
“He will explain the maneuvers that the pilots will be doing and the kind of aircraft it is and stuff like that,” he said. “So it’s still really cool to see and a fun draw that day.”
Kraby says she inquired about the snowbirds earlier this year and was offered the flyover instead of a full show that they were hoping for. In will be a busy day as the Snowbirds’ visit is just prior to the start of The Colour Run at one o’clock.
It will be the last time you will be able to see the snowbirds for about five years as the defense department announced that the pilots will be grounded while the planes are being replaced. The new aircraft is set to arrive sometime in 2030.
