Town of Kap paying more for Northeastern Public Health contribution

Kapuskasing town council is letting the Northeastern Public health board of directors know that it is not happy with the recent budget approval of a municipal contribution increase of 10 per cent. Councillor Martin Dinnissen says he wants to put the board on notice that these hikes can’t continue to happen.

“I’m a little bit disappointed at the high percentage, and I think we should send them a letter expressing our disappointment in that,” he said.

Councillor Gary Fortin, who represents the town on the board, says he and two others voted against the motion, but it was passed by a majority.

The levy increase cost the town of Kap an extra $20,305 on this year’s budget.
