Timmins might have a new tourist attraction under construction.
The new East End water tower on Gold Mine Rd. near Bruce Ave. could be the tallest of its kind in North America.
City Hall’s engineering manager Scott Collin says he’s waiting for data to confirm that.
“It is certainly the largest,” he states. “It’s definitely one of the tallest, being 60 m in height, but it definitely has the largest footprint and has the largest volume, I guess.”
Sixty metres is just under 197 feet.
Collin adds that it will reach its water supply potential in 25 or 50 years, depending on growth in the East End.
“The water will be stored and there’s enough volume for fire flows, emergency flows, you know, high usage times such as summer and suppertime and stuff like that.”
Depending on weather and other factors, Collin says the tower should be supplying water to South Porcupine and Porcupine by late next June or early July.
