Fourth edition of Kap Kraze is a week away

It’s a week until the start of the fourth edition of Kap Kraze the tailgate country derby that takes place on the grounds of the Sports Palace next Friday and Saturday July 17 and July 18. Kapuskasing tourism and special events coordinator Kelly Kraby says ticket sales are going extremely well, and people are coming from literally across the country.

“Oh ya we have people from all over Ontario, Quebec. We have some from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC like it’s a national kind of thing,” she said. “We don’t have a lot of people from there, but we do see a few so it’s fun.”

One of the highlights of the event is the demolition derby which begins next Saturday at noon. Tourism and special events coordinator Kraby says there are 53 competitors ready to smash up their vehicles in front of nearly 3,000 people.

“I’ve never been to a derby before I organized this thing and when you really sitdown and watch it you get really excited, especially when you know the people,” she said. “I don’t know I think it has grown on the people and it’s just become a household thing here.”

The festival features a Friday night tailgate party and fireworks followed by the Demolition Derby starting at noon on Saturday. The big concert is later that night with Tim Hicks and Zach McPhee. Tickets are available on Event Brite or at the Welcome Centre.
