With hunting season upon us the Porcupine Health Unit is reminding residents to be tick smart.
The health unit says it could take up to 36-hours for a tick carrying Lyme disease to spread the disease so it’s important to check yourself after coming inside. If you do find a tick on yourself make sure to remove it using a tick remover or tweezers.
The health unit says some way to avoid encounters with ticks is to wear long sleeved shirts and pants while outdoors.
If a tick has been attached to you for longer than 24-hours reach out to your local health care provider.
