OPP Warn of New Advertising Scam

The OPP is advising the public to be cautious of advertising scams in the area. These scammers will try and get you to put advertisements on vehicles in exchange for money. Last month OPP received a complaint from a victim who had been targeted by one of these scams. Arrangements were made through e-mail for the victim to receive a cheque in the mail for his work. Whenever he went to the bank to deposit the money they notified him the cheque was fraudulent. The victim lost all of the money that was deposited into the account.

If you are unsure of the authenticity of a request contact your bank, local police or someone you trust. For more information on the different types of scams and to know what to watch out for contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre directly at 1-888-495-8501.
