Save VIA is a campaign which, among other goals, aims to retain and restore passenger-rail services to northern Ontario.
Kapuskasing town council gave its recommendation last night not to support the campaign.
Councillor Dave Plourde cited a five cents-a-litre gas hike to off-set its expenses as too costly for residents.
Other northern municipalities are taking a closer look whether or not to support the initiative.
The town’s CAO Yves Labelle says it’s mostly to keep rail in the North Bay area but it’s a start for the north in restoring its lost rail services from 2012.
