The Northeast OPP is raising awareness regarding travelling on ice covered waters over the winter months.
Police say checking ice thickness and quality before travelling across it is a must.
The OPP is asking residents not to travel alone when traversing ice, whether it’s on a snow mobile, vehicle or on foot.
Ice conditions can change rapidly from hour to hour, day to day and from place to place.
Police say travelling with an experienced outdoor enthusiast familiar with freezing patterns, currents and hazards is a great idea.
The OPP says always be wary of ice conditions as we move into the winter months.
