Kapuskasing has its first female Chief Administrative Officer. Chantal Guillemette who is currently the clerk, takes over the role from Guylain Baril as of Tuesday, Canada Day. Guillemette says being from the Model Town makes it extra special and is looking forward to leading the staff.
“I’m very proud and honoured because historically the CAO position has always been filled a man or a male, so I think I am making history now as the first female CAO for the town of Kapuskasing,” she said.
Guillemette has worked for the town in a variety of roles for the past 26 years.
She says there are a lot of challenges ahead including how to deal with rising costs, but believes that there is a great staff in place to work together..
“One of my visions is to make sure I am leading from three directions, directions of council implementing their decisions, supporting staff and also be a good ambassador for our town for our residents,” she noted.
Mayor Dave Plourde says her dedication to the community, in depth understanding of municipal government makes her well suited the lead the group.
