The Town of Kap’s original plan to fix the Connecting Link from Government Road at Riverside Drive to Bonnieview Road will now proceed.
Mayor Dave Plourde says the town notified the Ontario Ministry of Transportation that the project had been scaled back due to the lack of funding and needed some help.
“And they came back with an additional $2 million to allow us to finish the job so I think that is good news and that means again, we are going to be able to completely redo from Riverside Drive all the way to Bonnieview Road,” he said.
That brings the grant up to a total of $5 million. Plourde says the announcement is not only huge for the community but for the north.
“But you know the promise that the government has made that there will be a huge investment in infrastructure and roads throughout northern Ontario is just the beginning, so it does show that they are coming through with a promise,” he added.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks once the contractor has concluded its work on Highway 11 between Kapuskasing and Moonbeam.
