Kap History – first babies of 1963

A story about the first babies to arrive in 1963 is the subject of this week’s look at Kapuskasing and area history.

The January 9th edition of the Northern Times features the three-way race for the first baby of the year between the Zarachuk, Robineau and Slote families. The honour went to Paul Peter Zarachuk who was born at 8:15 in the morning on New Years Day. The attending physician was Dr. J. W. Latimer. Walter Zarachuk was employed as a mill worker at Kimberly Clark of Canada.\

Hours later, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Robineau of 93 Byng Avenue arrived followed by a son to Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Slot. The Zarachuks received a gift basket from the Northern Times’ sponsors.

We appreciate the continued support of the Kapuskasing Public Library for our weekly segment.
