The town of Kap’s snow removal budget showed a downward trend each of the last two winters with lower snowfall amounts.
That hasn’t been the case this year according to General Manager of Public Works Paul Martin. He notes it’s been a standard year for snow removal despite the big storms in January and February that increased hours to clear the downtown care.
“We have lots of contractors assisting with us in trucks cleaning up our downtown commercial area,” he said. “We at public works have a great crew of experienced workers who have been doing this for years without the help of the contractors no way we would be able to accomplish what we do in one evening.”
This time of the year an early spring warm up is always concerning for residents and town of Kap workers when it comes to the snow melt and possible flood issues. But Martin believes this year there is less of that worry.
“Right now we are having sunny days but we do have cold evenings,” he said. “Winter is still here – we still have to take that into consideration. Our nights are cold, the days maybe warm but we are not done yet.”
As for those residents who normally keep their water taps running due to water line freezing issues, Martin encourages you to keep the taps on a bit longer.
