In this week’s Kapuskasing History segment we look at municipally operated ambulance service.
It’s contained in the September 19th 1962 edition of the Northern Times where the Kinsmen Club inquired to town council whether they would operate and house an ambulance if one was provided.
Council debated the issue for about 30 minutes, and voted to write back the Kinsmen and tell them it would be referred to the Fire Committee. One councilor George Maybury was originally against the idea but was reassured by Clerk-Administrator Matt Rukavina that it wasn’t illegal to do so under municipal jurisdiction.
Another councilor was concerned about the cost to tax payers but was told that fees could be charged to reimburse the costs.
We appreciate the support from the Kapuskasing Public Library for their help with the feature every week.
