The Kapuskasing Curling Club is getting help in covering some costs for the upcoming season. Secretary Jim Mangan says they received just over $29,000 from Hack to Hack Solution to install ice logos.
“What involves is vinyl sheets that are 150 feet long for each of our five ice surfaces, with the circles already there and the lines there,” he said. “The Kapuskasing Curling Club logo embedded into it and they’re already painted.”
Mangan says in the past volunteers would spend many hours painting the ice and this will save them a lot of time. Meantime the Curling Club’s annual general meeting is set for tomorrow night at 7 in the club lounge.
He reports that membership has grown from 75 to 82 in the last year, and hopes that takes another leap forward — especially at the youth level where those numbers haven’t been so good following the pandemic.
“The younger little rock and bantam curlers play on Sunday afternoon 1-3 and then they participate in bonspiels out of town starting in January,” he said.
