A milestone arrives this coming Monday for the Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation in Kapuskasing its fifth anniversary. The foundation raises money for equipment and other things the hospital needs. The province only pays for the building.
Founding chair Gilbert Peters says a highlight of the past five years is equipping a second operating room. Last month, doctors and other staff used it and the first O-R simultaneously for the first time.
“That was a very, very difficult thing to do,” Peters remarks, “but they managed to do it and it’s because the foundation was able to supply them with the equipment that was needed to get this done.”
Peters says it’s important to have a modern, properly equipped hospital in the community.
“I’ve had one young doctor tell me ‘Mr. Peters, I’m glad that you guys are equipping this, for the simple reason I’m not interested in working with my grandfather’s tools.’”
There’s much more from Gilbert Peters, including a thank you message to foundation supporters, in the audio of our interview right here:
