Francophone comic drag queen headlines Pride Month celebration in Hearst

It’s not the typical drag queen show Le Conseil des Arts de Hearst is putting on to celebrate Pride Month in June.

Executive and artistic director Valérie Picard says this year’s Queer Cabaret features a Francophone stand-up comic who’s also a drag queen.

“So it’s not a drag show, but rather a comedy show by a drag queen,” she explains, “and we’re following that up with a safe space karaoke battle. So it’s just sort of like a party night where everyone can feel comfortable with themselves, wear what they want, be who they want and not have fear of judgment.”

Following the comedy is a karaoke battle in French and English.

“Really, it’s just an event where everyone is invited,” says Picard, “as long as respect and acceptance and love is at the forefront of the intention.”

Picard fills in the blanks with more details of the event, in the audio link of our interview right here:
