Mayor Plourde hopes town and Flyers can work together on new pact

The Mayor of Kapuskasing says it’s in the town’s best interest to look at what the Flyers U18 hockey management is proposing for a new agreement. Dave Plourde says the Flyers bring a lot to the community and is hopeful something can be worked out.

“I think it will go to committees and they will talk about it and come up with the recommendation, that hopefully will please everybody and make it so that they have some sort of reliable agreement they can rely on,” he said.

Plourde says the Flyers acknowledge they will have to pay the same ice rate as minor hockey, but also want some revenue from the advertising signage inside the Sports Palace.

“As it was suggested by Jimmy, it’s a win-win for the community – we recognize that the Flyers bring a lot to our community,” he said. “And we would like to continue to work with them.”

The previous contract was in place for the past 10 seasons before it was cancelled last year by the previous council.

The Flyers upcoming season in the Great North U18 Hockey League begins next month.
