Plourde plans on running for second term as Kapuskasing Mayor

Dave Plourde is marking his 28th year in municipal politics and he says he’s not done yet. Plourde confirmed with Moose News on Monday night that he is throwing his hat into the ring to run as mayor of Kapuskasing in this fall’s municipal election.

“I’ve spoken to my wife and son about it and I think I have enjoyed the last four years although it’s been difficult in more ways than one,” he said. “But I’ve had a really good team and that’s made it a lot of fun to participate on municipal council.”

Plourde says he never thought his political career would have gone as long as it has.

“First term actually in those years was actually three year terms,” he recalled. “So I went three years of three terms and then they switched over to four year terms. I just took every term as it came not knowing whether I would run in the next term and here we are 28 years later still enjoying it and still young enough to enjoy doing it too.”

Plourde says he is proud of the accomplishments of council in the last four years and is looking forward to a bright future in the next term if he is elected. Plourde and council have had some difficult challenges this term including getting the town through the COVID-19 pandemic plus dealing with the rising cost of associated with operating the town of Kap.
