It appears you’ll have a chance to kick up your heels and celebrate Kapuskasing’s 100th anniversary. A rendezvous weekend is set for September 10th and 11th in front of the Civic Centre. Kap 100 committee chairman Julien Boucher says a recent event in Riverside Park shows that people are ready.
“It was great seeing people going outside and talking to each other and enjoying the live music,” he said. “It was quite a good turnout so we’re really pumped for the Rendezvous Weekend to see people coming together and enjoying everything we’re gonna have planned for them.”
It will be the first live event for the 100th anniversary celebrations as previous activities took place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous provincial lockdowns. Some of the events for rendezvous weekend include a parade, drone show, fireworks, a rib festival, and lots of live local music.
Boucher says one of the events is the final of the Kapuskasing’s Got Talent competition on the Saturday night.
“We were not sure how the final would be,” he said. “Would there be a lockdown and people would have to do it virtually, but having a chance to do it live is going to be really great. Lots of different people participated with the youth and adult category. We are looking forward to it.”
A full schedule of the weekend events will be up on Kap 100’s website in the near future.
