New Canadians to the area are invited to attend a couple of welcome barbecues this weekend. Le Reseau Du Nord is hosting the events tomorrow in Hearst and Sunday in Kapuskasing from 11 am to 2 pm. Economic Development Agent Marie Jose Tremblay says the barbecues offer a simple approach for those new to the communities.
“That are looking for jobs,” she said. “It’s a perfect opportunity for them to mingle with employers and see what their opportunities could be or the opportunities that we do have in our area and to help our workers and economy in the region.”
Tremblay says a number of area businesses will also be there.
“We also invited quite a few community partners to have kiosks to promote their services to newcomers so they are aware of all the services that are offered to them in our communities and in our region.”
The barbecues feature free hotdogs and beverages, live music and displays by several businesses and organizations in each of the communities. Tremblay says the events also allow Le Reseau to celebrate its first place accomplishment in a francophone video conference. The videos documented the accomplishments of new Canadians in the region.
