new pool doesn’t get nomination for federal government funding

A proposed new swimming pool for the Model Town will have to wait on further government funding. Town Council was told that the project was not nominated for federal review under the Canada infrastructure program, but they can apply for a second stream of funding that’s expected to be available. Mayor Dave Plourde says there were a lot of projects in the running for the $1 billion in funding the province and federal governments had available. The province indicated that the new pool project didn’t meet their requirements that included community need and support, lack of facilities nearby and overall project value. The grant from the province would have covered 73.3 per cent of the $22.7 million of total cost of the project. The proposal has the new pool being build across from the Sports Palace in the parking lot.
