The Town of Cochrane is reversing their decision to pick up garbage every two weeks.
Municipal Director of Operations and Infrastructure for the town, Shane Skinner, says an overwhelming amount of community feedback forced the town to reconsider the garbage and recycling schedule within a month of changing to bi-weekly pickups.
Skinner says the bi-weekly pickups caused more work because people would leave extra trash outside. He says during this trial period some residents tried composting to reduce trash, however they didn’t notice any changes in the amount of recyclables being collected.
The trial period was supposed to run until the end of March, but due to a number of factors including there not being any cost savings and the public’s opinion, they had to look at the proposal again much sooner. Skinner wants to thank everyone for their patience during this trial period.
The garbage and recycling pickup schedule will go back to the way it was previously on Monday.
