FedNor Funding will Support Local Community Projects

New funding from FedNor will provide Kapuskasing with almost $400,000 for agriculture and infrastructure projects.

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre was at the Agricultural Business Development Park yesterday to deliver the funding announcement.

Close to $300,000 will go towards supporting projects at the demonstration farm with the other $100,000 going towards the new pool at the Sports Palace.

Economic Development Officer for the Town of Kapuskasing, Andre Robichaud says we’re already seeing the local impact of this farm. He says they have four full-time employee’s and have already partnered up with local businesses such as la Fromagerie and Kapuskasing Meats.

Robichaud says the brunt of the money will be going into the administration building, but the funding will also support infrastructure projects around the farm such as improving the barns and ventilation systems, installing an elevator, grain bins, barn curtains and fencing.

Lefebvre also stopped in Cochrane later in the day to announce half a million dollars to create a multi-modal transportation hub. The new facility will include equipment needed to move cargo between trucks and railway cars and will be an efficient way to transport goods across the region.

The funding announced is a part of FedNors Northern Ontario Development Program which helps create jobs and strengthen the economy in local communities.
