Cochrane Fire Department Challenging Residents to Take Selfies Checking Smoke Alarms

For fire prevention week the Cochrane Fire Department is asking residents to take part in the “Don’t Wait, Check the Date” selfie challenge. Fire Chief Richard Vallee says smoke alarms don’t last forever, so this year they are challenging residents to take a selfie checking the expiration date.

Vallee says while some smoke alarms can last up to ten years, others may have a different time frame. The Fire Department also wants to remind residents that smoke alarms are required on every floor in your house. Firefighters say the public should test batteries in their smoke alarms every month and should replace them at least once per year.

The Cochrane Fire Department will be having an open house at the Fire Hall on Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm in support of Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign.
