Old School to Become Housing Project in Opasatika

An old school in Opasatika could be turned into a housing project for the aging population.

The town is in talks with the Cochrane District Social Service Administration Board on what do to with the school. L’ecole Saint Antoine de Padoue closed its doors back in 2014.

Before this project can move forward, Economic Development Officer for the Town of Opasatika, Al Robichaud says there’s a few hurtles they have to overcome.

Robichaud says they would need to reevaluate the current health services, transportation and find ways to attract new residents. He says that if they want to create this housing development project for the aging population of the town, people will need to relocate to the area to buy some of the houses that will go on the market.

The proposed project would create 8 to 12 housing units in the vacated school.

For more information you can contact the Town of Opasatika at (705) 369-4531.
