Mamawi Day Camp a Huge Success

The Mamawi project looks to connect all different cultures in our community. The first Mamawi day camp brought together 40 students from grades six to eight to take part in all kinds of cultural activities.

One of the organizing committee members of Mamawi, Anne-Marie Leblanc says they brought together different students from around our community to take part in the camp.

It was a three day camp that involved different cultural activities such as smudging and signing French Canadian folk songs. Leblanc says they hope some of the things the kids learned in camp will stick with them for the rest of their lives.

Leblanc also says they hope to teach kids at a younger age to accept everyone in our community no matter the race.

As the kids get settled back into school, meetings will be set up with those that took part in the day camp to see what they want to change going forward.
