Refurbished Polar Bear Express Cars on Display

A newly refurbished Polar Bear Express passenger coach will be on display to the public in Cochrane.

The province announced the $17-million in funding back in 2014 and is expecting all the work to be completed by 2019. The money will go towards modernizing the rail service that provides an essential link for anyone travelling in the north.

Some of the upgrades include new seats, USB charging stations, accessible washrooms, enhanced luggage space and comfortable dinning cars.

This is the only year-round ground transportation connecting Cochrane to Moosonee and the James Bay Coast.

Each of the rail cars will be refurbished thanks to the funding provided. Communications Manager for Ontario Northland Renee Baker says there are a lot of changes passengers can expect to see.

One of the new coaches will be on display at the Ontario Northland station in Cochrane from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight and in Moosonee tomorrow from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

This will give members of the public the opportunity to see some of the changes coming to the Polar Bear Express first-hand.
